A Sexual Assault Criminal Defense You Can Depend On
Have you been accused of sexual assault, domestic violence, lewd conduct, indecent exposure or any other crime involving a sexual offense? Does it feel like everyone just assumes you’re guilty? To make matters worse, you are probably worried about your future, too.
What happens if you are convicted? Unfortunately, if you’ve been accused of a sex crime, your fears are probably justified. Accusations of sex crimes are particularly harmful to a person’s reputation, making it difficult to get a job, lease an apartment or even obtain a mortgage loan. Don’t be a victim of an unwarranted conviction. Contact us at 908-272-9700 to see what we can do to protect your future.
Decades Of Experience Defending Serious Charges
I am Anthony N. Palumbo of the firm The Law Offices of Anthony N. Palumbo. As a criminal defense attorney with decades of trial experience, I understand that accusations of sex crimes can turn your life upside down even before your guilt has been proven. However, you don’t have to go it alone. While each case is unique, I know what a prosecutor needs in order to convict you of rape or sexual assault.
Penalties If Convicted Of Sexual Assault
A conviction of sexual assault can result in:
- Severe fines
- Probation
- Possible imprisonment (average seven years)
- Possible registration as a sex offender
In addition to the consequences of sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault can carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison.
Registration means registering as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law. Under Megan’s Law, anyone convicted of a sex offense must register with law enforcement once out of jail, and must remain registered for at least 15 years. A sex offender must inform the local police of their name, address, what they look like, other convictions and if there is a change of address. The local police must then notify certain individuals that you live in the neighborhood.
