New Jersey man accused of DWI following accident

by | Aug 24, 2015 | Drunk Driving

On Aug. 16, New Jersey authorities reported that a man who was taken into custody was accused of driving while intoxicated. The incident occurred after he was accused of failing to pull over before crashing into several vehicles that were stopped due to a red light.

Authorities stated that, at 9:30 a.m., the man was spotted driving a Ford Taurus on St. Georges Avenue in Woodbrige. It appeared that the vehicle’s front passenger tire had burst, causing chunks of the tire to become airborne. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the man, but he allegedly refused to stop the vehicle. He reportedly continued down the highway with the remaining tire rubber falling off, leaving just the rim. He failed to stop when he came to the St. Georges Street and East Milton Avenue intersection, colliding into several vehicles.

The man was ultimately taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. He was charged with DWI, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding, in addition to other charges. His bail was set at $50,000. It was not known when he was scheduled to go to court.

If a person is accused of driving while intoxicated, there are several ways that a criminal law attorney can provide a defense. In some cases, the validity of the sobriety tests can be challenged as being improperly administered. In other cases, it may be advisable to attempt to negotiate a plea agreement that would involve a guilty plea to a lesser charge in exchange for a mitigation of penalties.
