It is probably a hockey fan’s dream to drive the Zamboni at a New Jersey Devils’ game. After all, driving the big ice resurfacing vehicle is a big deal during the intermissions, and it is arguably one of the coolest jobs a person can have. However, if you’re going to be behind the wheel of a Zamboni, you’re going to have to be sober.
Unfortunately, a Zamboni driver in North Dakota didn’t get the memo. During a high school girls’ hockey game, spectators observed the 27-year-old man driving the Zamboni quite erratically. Police were called and he was found to be drunk while resurfacing the ice. In fact, he was found to have a blood alcohol level of .30, which is more than three times the legal limit of .08.
Indeed, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 or above in the state of New Jersey is a misdemeanor; which is punishable with up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. There are additional fines and surcharges that can result in an additional $3000 being paid.
