Driving under the influence charges in New Jersey can bring significant consequences, both as a criminal charge and an associated impact on driving privileges. A man is facing more than a DUI offense based upon what police claim occurred after the police made contact with the man after finding his car in a parking lot. On Saturday, police responded to an area to look for a car that had been reported as being driven erratically.
Officers say that a car matching the description was parked in a lot. It is not clear if anyone was found inside the vehicle, but authorities claim that a Bridgeport man was investigated for drunk driving associated with the parked car.
Police say that the man was not cooperative and refused to perform field sobriety testing in the lot, as well as an evidentiary breath test at the police station. Aside from the refusal, police claim that the man kicked a police officer, injured a second and made threats while being processed.
The man is accused of two counts of assault on law enforcement, making threats, DUI and other offenses as a result of the police investigation.
The issues may generally arise in a single action, but each charge must be addressed separately in the criminal case. Prosecutors must prove every element of every charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
