Man from Jersey City facing DWI charge for police car collision

by | Apr 29, 2015 | Drunk Driving

The Jersey City man who was arrested for driving his vehicle into a borough police car on Sunday, April 19, is now facing a DWI charge. The charges were made by authorities on Monday, April 20.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a 2010 Dodge minivan, and the driver of the van is a 23-year-old man from Jersey City. The crash in question occurred on the morning of April 19 as the van drove westbound on Garibaldi avenue. Police say the van collided with the marked police car’s rear corner. The van continued driving as it sideswiped the patrol car. It stopped directly beside the police vehicle, and in doing so, it blocked the driver’s door.

Inside the patrol car, there was an officer who climbed through the driver’s side window and reached into the Dodge minivan to grab the driver. According to police records, the minivan driver was revving his engine. The driver was apprehended, and on Monday, he received a DWI charge, a charge for drunk driving within 1,000 feet of a school, and a reckless driving charge among others.

If convicted, a DWI charge can include serious penalties and turn your whole life upside down. In court, the prosecution preys on individuals who do not have a professional legal defense, and even if evidence is faulty or circumstances were not recorded properly, drivers are often convicted when they’re on their own. It might be useful for those facing DWI charges to seek legal counsel with an attorney because it will give them the time and resources they need to create a strategy for their case.
