A man in New Jersey was accused of driving drunk after police found him trying to change a tire on his car on July 25. The alleged drunk driving incident took place in the Chickahominy neighborhood of Greenwich at approximately 8:01 a.m. Police were called to a driveway along Hamilton Avenue when a report came in that the driveway was blocked.
When police officers arrived on the scene, a 24-year-old Montville man was found next to a car with a flat tire. The man explained to officers that he had pulled his car into the driveway in order to change the tire after he struck a curb. According to the police report, the man was extremely lethargic, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and swayed while he was talking. The report also said that the man did not know where he was.
After the man allegedly failed several field sobriety tests, he was booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released to his parents’ custody after they posted a $250 bond. The man was scheduled to appear in court on August 10.
Field sobriety tests are the least scientific method of determining whether or not a driver is under the influence of alcohol. Many people who have been accused of drunk driving after failing field sobriety tests dispute their charge by arguing that the evidence against them is not reliable. Some defendants explain that exhaustion, a disability or an injury caused them to fail a field sobriety test.
