Nun charged with DUI

by | Nov 19, 2015 | Drunk Driving

New Jersey residents may be interested to learn about a recent case in which a nun was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Reportedly, the incident happened on Nov. 7 around 3 a.m. in Turnerville.

Witnesses called police after seeing the woman allegedly pull into a parking lot of a Meineke auto shop. The woman then reportedly backed into the door before leaving. Witnesses who then followed her were startled to see that she was a nun when police had her step out of her truck.

Law enforcement officers reportedly had the nun perform field sobriety tests, which they claim she failed. She was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. The police went to the Meineke shop later in the morning to let the owner know what they believe had happened. It is unclear if the nun remains in custody or if she was released on bond. Sources do not indicate what the results were for any breath or blood testing that may have been performed.

When people are issued DUI charges, their potential penalties will depend on their prior record, how many DUI convictions they have, whether they injured any people and whether they caused any property damage. Penalties for all DUIs can be severe, but they become increasingly more so if there are aggravating factors. Those who are charged may want to get help early from a criminal defense attorney who has experience in impaired driving allegations

Legal counsel may be able to identify available defenses in the client’s case, which could include problems with how police conducted the stop and the manner in which field sobriety tests were administered.
