Man posts drunk driving video to Facebook

New Jersey residents may be interested to learn about a DUI case involving a man who posted a drunk driving video on Facebook. The 28-year-old man was taken into custody at around 4 p.m. on Dec. 28 after police received a phone call from one of his Facebook friends. In the video posted to the social media site, the man can be seen drinking whiskey and using his phone while driving.

The accused man has reportedly received drunk driving charges on two previous occasions in 2007 and 2014. The latest incident resulted in charges for operating a vehicle impaired, marked lane violation, open container in a motor vehicle and following too closely.

When the man posted the video to his Facebook, he reportedly told concerned friends not to worry because he is a good driver. He also explained that he had one finger on the wheel and it was raining. In a television interview after the incident, the man’s sister explained that her brother was grieving the recent losses of his unborn twins and his aunt. The man’s sister and his girlfriend said that they were relieved that police had stopped him before an accident occurred.

When evidence of drunk driving is overwhelming, it may be in a defendant’s best interest to plead guilty to drunk driving charges. However, the charges may still be reduced if a plea deal is negotiated before the defendant pleads guilty. A criminal defense attorney may be able to help a person accused of drunk driving to negotiate for a reduced sentence through a plea deal.
