Examples of “use”
The following list is considered “drug use” at Rutgers. If you are caught doing any of the following you could be prosecuted for illegal drug use:
- Selling or exchanging marijuana
- Possessing and/or using medical marijuana
- Possessing paraphernalia including but not limited to rolling papers, bongs and/or pipes
- Intending to plant, grow or harvest marijuana
Getting caught
You can be reported to the university police on any suspicion of using illegal drugs. If you were found to be using illegal drugs such as marijuana, a few different actions may be taken, including:
- Arrest
- Relocation from your residence
- Loss of housing — without refund
- Mandatory substance counseling
Distributing or selling illegal drugs in a residence hall will mean immediate arrest. Additionally, you could be permanently expelled from school.
University discipline policies
Campus drug crimes can be prosecuted by the university as well as the local police. These proceedings can then be carried out before, after or concurrently with each other. Even if your charges are dropped by the local police, you can still be charged and disciplined by the university.
You could also be subject to paying a fine for university drug charges. There are different policies and fines for each offense, with increasing severity.
