The New Jersey State Police intended to only arrest two men on drug charges related to heroin late last month. However, the investigation soon included the arrest of two more suspects. Police say that they seized two-and-a-half bricks of heroin in addition to other drug items.
While police were making the arrest, one of the men tried to escape in a vehicle that belonged to another suspect. Police stopped the vehicle, and the 41-year-old suspect tried to run away. However, the man was soon discovered at a Red Roof Inn where he was with a 32-year-old woman, who police also arrested.
Criminal charges being brought against the defendants range in severity from heroin possession to heroin distribution. Certain defendants were also charged with possession of prescription legend drugs, drug paraphernalia possession and obstruction.
In a separate incident that happened earlier in July, one of the men was arrested a previous time. In that arrest, authorities found 27 bricks of heroin valued at approximately $6,700.
It is unknown if any of these defendants have obtained a criminal defense lawyer to represent them against their drug charges. However, each of these accused persons will have the ability to defend themselves against the charges in criminal court. Also, even if they cannot afford an attorney of their own, they will have the right to a free public defender.
Having a criminal defense lawyer on your side during criminal proceedings can be invaluable. Your lawyer will do everything in his or her power to reduce the chances and/or severity of punishment in your criminal proceedings.
