Man arrested after returning to collect alleged drug-filled bag

by | Apr 10, 2014 | Drug Charges

New Jersey residents know that prosecutors take drug crimes with the utmost seriousness. This includes, but is certainly not limited to, drug charges regarding heroin. One man from the Bronx finds himself in trouble after being arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport in regard to a bag of heroin.

According to Port Authority police, the man had rented a car at the airport. When workers at the rental car company went to clean it out after the man returned it, they found a suspicious bag concealed underneath the dashboard. Apparently thinking it might contain something illicit, they called police.

The man who had rented the car contacted the rental desk after he returned the vehicle, saying that he had left something behind. Police who examined the bag said it had 250 packages of heroin inside. They were waiting for the man when he returned to the airport to collect the bag. After he confirmed that it belonged to him, police arrested the man on suspicion of drug possession. His bail was set at $150,000.

There is still much we do not know about this case. Do the drugs really belong to the man who was arrested? The classic response to people who are arrested in similar circumstances is to deny that the drugs belong to them. That certainly could be the truth in this case, though. The rental car’s whereabouts during the rental term aren’t known, and the truth of whom the bag belongs to might not be as clear-cut as it appears.
